Should you Buy a smart desk for your trading business?

The path of trading success requires the aspiring and seasoned trader to leave no stone un-turned to enhance ones trading edge. Yes having a high probability system is a must. However, what is frequently ignored by many is the environment in which you call your trading home.  I explored the options of enhancing my trading environment with a Smart Desk.  What makes these Desks smart is your ability to raise your desk up and down to your eye level. At that position you’re standing and frequently moving and I found these significant benefits and some draw-downs worth mentioning.

1-Blood flow: you are constantly moving and your blood circulation is at a high level. This will lead to more blood and oxygen and nutrients shuttling to your brain. We Traders need every brain cell to work at optimal levels. So this is definitely a win for the Smart Desk.
2-Breathing controls your mental states. I found out that my breathing while standing and walking is more energetic and deeper in nature. This will lead to more focused and robust mental decisions. Another Win for the Smart Desk
3-Posture: Standing at eye level to your trading screen has the benefit of reducing neck and eye strain as you select the height that fits you. Also, Reduce tension on your wrist and chances of carpal tunnel syndrome.
4-Sitting Disease: The term “Sitting Disease” has been coined by the scientific community and is commonly used when referring to metabolic syndrome and the ill-effects of an overly sedentary lifestyle. A 2008 Vanderbilt study of 6,300 people published in the American Journal of Epidemiology estimated that the average American spends 55% of waking time (7.7 hours per day) in a sedentary behavior such as sitting.  This Behavior Leads to obesity, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol levels, back and neck problems and many more health concerns.  You owe yourself a healthier body and mind.

Some of the issues I experienced while using the Smart Desk
  • Leg fatigue and strain. It’s natural to assume that standing and using your legs will get them working harder than you are accustomed to. For every 50 minutes standing I take 10 minute break and sit down to take the pressure off. I also, invested in a anti-Fatigue Standing Mat and that helps reduce tension.
  • A decent smart desk will run you between $300 to $1400 depending on the features and the load capacity. Yes it does cost more to stand and work.
Finally, I feel I added an edge to my trading and work day by incorporating a Smart desk to my environment. I am moving and thinking much quicker and loving the extra energy. I will use that extra energy and focus and push my trading career further and higher. Trading is a game of inches. Winning is measured by that extra push you give yourself. That push came today with the smart desk.

Wish you all Health, Wealth and Happiness and success in all you do.
Regards,
George

Our Epic Journey to the Mojave Desert and the Lava Tubes

As a lover of all that is travel, Athena and I decided to take a road trip from St. Clemente, California all the way to Dallas, Texas. We wanted to do this right, so we planned for what felt like forever.  I love nature and wanted to make sure every stop we made along the way meant something significant. For our first leg of the trip we googled any attractions between St. Clemente and Las Vegas.  We came across raving reviews for the lava tube on Yelp- Click Here. The trip to the opening of the tubes was tumultuous at best. In 116° F, we managed to get lost trying to find the opening to the cave... Hmm ... not the way we envisioned it. However, This place is  absolutely magical and worth all our troubles:

Awesome Facts about How Lava Tubes are made:

  1. Volcanic lava that made this beautiful Lava Tube in Mojave Desert reached temperatures up to 2,120° F, according to USGS.
  2. The volcanic eruption that led to the Mojave Lava Tube happened 7.6 Million years ago with the last flow just 10,000 years ago.
  3. The characteristics of the lava that made the tubes is a runny Basaltic lava. It spreads are as smooth as hot maple syrup. While the top layer of the lava cools down the inner tube keeps flowing with lava. Once the volcanic eruption ends, the flowing lava emptied out of the tunnels end, leaving a hallow lava tube.

*** Video of How lava moves and how it can make Lava tubes like the one we visited

Things to bring with you on this trip:

  1. Flash light- you'll need to light your way into the opening of the cave (your phone flashlight works too).
  2. Lots and lots of water
  3. Cooling towels really helped- Check it out: Cooling Towel on Amazon
  4. Picnic basket- The inside of the tube is cool and you can have a nice meal. Please pick up after yourself  afterwards - keep it clean people!
  5. Awesome attitude and nice camera. You will want to take lots pictures.

How do you get to the opening of the Lave Tube?

Located in an out crop of cone shaped mountains that stands out from the Mojave desert between the City of Baker and the Kelso Depot Visitor Center. The exact coordinates of the Lava Tubes is 35.2163° N, 115.7515° W

** Go North on Kelbacker Road from Highway 40. You will pass the Mojave National Preserve sign... Your Has Trip Just Begun.

** Take a Right onto Aiken Mine Road. This turn is hard to see, since it is an unmarked dirt road, so make sure you are watching your GPS closely for that turn. Eventually, you will reach this sign at a fork in the road- Stay on the left of it and continue driving. You are getting close to your destination.

** Took a video of us driving to the Lava Tubes -You get an idea of the environment

** You will pass this cone shaped Mountain to your left.. getting closer and closer.

** Interesting mountain formations with a bear claw on the face of the rocks. I am calling it Bear Claw Mountain. You are less than a mile from the Parking lot

** SO CLOSE!!!  You are almost there... Park your car.  Be aware there are no bathrooms anywhere around this place, so be ready to do your business in the WILD!!!!

***WARNING*** VERY IMPORTANT!!! About 100 feet from the parking lot, you will see a small sign stating "No Motorized Vehicles beyond this point."  TAKE A RIGHT AT THIS SIGN!! We make the mistake of missing that sign and walked about a mile in the searing heat further than we needed to.

** The opening of the Lava Tubes has three holes in total. You can see the two of them here.

** Sturdy metal ladder takes you down to the opening of the Cave- WARNING- The Rails are HOT HOT HOT- Put a towel on your handles as you descend to the mouth of the beast.

** Watch your steps as you go down, you are better off if you descend backwards. There is a lot of loose gravel. Once you get to the bottom of the opening, it will seem really dark. Turn on your flash light and get on your knees to crawl under the low overhang into the interior of the Tube.

** Get ready to experience  MAGIC....Make sure you watch my video at the bottom for the full experience.

** Columns of light are best seen from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

** Amazing embrace of the Light.

** Surrender to the light.

** This has been a Spiritual Experience for us.
